💙 About Me
Hi there! I am a lifelong swimmer, military spouse, mother of four, and founder of Making Merfolk. My journey in the water began before I could even walk, and since then, the pool has been my second home. For over 20 years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching swim lessons across the U.S. and internationally, adapting to new cultures and communities while staying rooted in one mission: making swimming accessible, inclusive, and empowering for everyone.
As a military spouse, I’ve taught in diverse environments, from large base facilities to small local pools, and worked with students of all backgrounds, abilities, and ages. I'm certified in lifeguarding and pool operations, and my teaching extends to water safety education, lifesaving skills, and even mermaiding.
Swimming is more than a sport or hobby, it’s a life-saving skill, and I know that all too well. My dedication is deeply personal: I lost a loved one to drowning. It’s a pain I never want another family to experience. That’s why I work to ensure that every student, from infants to adults, feels safe, seen, and supported in the water.
As a mom to a child with disabilities, I understand how important it is to tailor lessons to meet unique needs. I’ve worked with neurodiverse children, including those on the autism spectrum, creating gentle, structured lessons that center trust and joy. I believe every person deserves to feel confident in the water, regardless of age, background, or ability.
Outside of lessons, I also love to make magic as a mermaid at parties and community events. For me, being a mermaid isn’t just about sparkle; it’s about strength, imagination, and representation. As a proud Trinbagonian woman, I bring the beauty and spirit of the Caribbean into everything I do, showing young swimmers that mermaids come in every shade, shape, and story.
At Making Merfolk, my goal is simple: help people feel at home in the water. Whether you're learning to float, training to save lives, or just want to swim with a mermaid, I’m here to help you dive in, safely, joyfully, and with confidence.
